  21.     Announcement:    World-Wide Web Wizards Workshop

  24. Dale Dougherty of O'Reilly & Associates and
  25. Tim Berners-Lee of CERN are organizing a technical workshop for
  26. W3 software developers.   We have worked out the following
  27. dates for the workshop, to be held in Cambridge, MA.

  29.     Wednesday July 28 1993
  30.         to
  31.     Friday July 30 1993

  33. Depending on the turnout, we plan to 
  34. meet at the office of O'Reilly & Associates.
  35.  
  36. The workshop is an opportunity to bring together developers 
  37. who have been working on WWW-related code and who have had
  38. only email (and web) contact with each other.  
  39.  
  40. A principal aim will be to discuss development priorities,
  41. especially developments in HTTP and (to a lesser extent) HTML.
  42. Features being added to the public domain code library, and
  43. the basic servers, will be under discussion, for example
  44.  
  45.     - Authentication and Accounting
  46.     - Naming schemes (URNs and machinery behind them)
  47.     - Style sheet mechanisms
  48.     - Negotiation of document representations,
  49.         character sets, etc in HTTP
  50.     - Interactive objects
  51.     - Software needs of Internet service providers
  52.     
  53. The workshop will not be a tutorial for beginners;
  54. it will be organized as a discussion forum for developers.
  55. The objective is to establish common direction for
  56. Web development, so that developers can benefit from
  57. the work others are doing.
  58.  
  59. We would also like to have some discussions among those
  60. with an informed managerial perspective on the current
  61. and future directions of the web, and its organization. 
  62.

  65. We'd like to get a sense of how many people are coming
  66. to ensure that we have enough space.
